This stunning and extremely well preserved tin crane toy was produced by Kovodružstvo Náchod in Czechoslovakia in the early 1980s using tooling acquired from the German CKO Kellerman Toy Company dating back to the 1950s. From that somewhat convoluted lineage, this beautiful classic was born.
Measuring 56cm (23"), this tall crane rolls on four rubber wheels (each marked "Made in Czechoslovakia") and features two locking twine winches to control the two articulating movements of the crane and hook. This item shows virtually no significant signs of play wear; the paint is bright and glossy, and all mechanical parts function smoothly. It is hard to find tinplate toys of any vintage in this condition, and this example is ready for heavy lifting as a play toy or the quiet life of a display model.
